At Mercantive, we take responsibility for collecting and remitting taxes on behalf of our sellers in certain countries, simplifying tax compliance for you. Here's how taxes work on our platform:
Tax Collection
In some countries, Mercantive is responsible for calculating, collecting, and remitting applicable sales taxes, VAT, or GST on transactions processed through our platform. This simplifies the tax process for you as a seller, allowing you to focus on your business while we handle the complexities of tax compliance.
Threshold Nexus and Tax Compliance
In the early stages of our company, we may not have established tax nexus thresholds in every jurisdiction. This means that in some locations, Mercantive may not be required to collect and remit taxes initially. However, as we grow and expand, we will continually assess our tax obligations and update our practices to ensure compliance with local laws.
Sellers’ Responsibilities
While Mercantive handles tax collection for transactions processed through our platform in certain countries, it's important for sellers to understand their own tax obligations, especially if they operate in jurisdictions where Mercantive does not yet have a tax nexus. Sellers should consult with a tax professional to ensure they are meeting all their local tax obligations.
Even in regions where we handle tax collection, this may not cover all of your tax obligations as a seller. You may still be responsible for other taxes, such as income taxes or local business taxes, depending on your business activities. We strongly recommend consulting a tax advisor to ensure you are fully compliant with all applicable tax laws.
Transparency in Tax Charges
We strive to be transparent in our tax processes. Taxes will be calculated based on the buyer’s location and applicable laws, and will be displayed at checkout. The amount collected will be clearly itemized on the invoice provided to both you and your customers.
Tax Coverage Overview
Currently, we handle tax collection in the United States where we have a tax nexus. As we expand, we may cover additional countries.
